James Warnock was convicted of the rape and murder of Yiannoulla Yianni 17.
He had murdered her on 13 August 1982 whilst he was at home alone when he was 22.
In December 2015 he was arrested for having indecent images of children and had a DNA sample taken which was found to match DNA taken from semen found at the murder scene.
At the time of her murder Yiannoulla Yianni had been seen talking to a man described as being in his early 20's on her doorstep and 20 minutes later she was heard to scream. When her parents returned they found jewellery on the stairs and then the partially naked body of Yiannoulla Yianni on their bed.
At the trial James Warnock, whohad lived about half a mile from her home said that he had been in a sexual relationship with Yiannoulla Yianni after meeting her at her family's shop, but the court heard that Yiannoulla Yianni had been a virgin at the time she had been raped and murdered.
In 1984, before James Warnock was arrested, the police reported that they thought that her murderer had been making night-time visits to her grave. They said that they thought that the man had been to her grave 37 times in the previous year. They said that they had kept vigil there and even tried to video record the scene over night, but without success.
